Located about 80 miles northeast of Little Rock, Batesville is one of the last major stops in central Arkansas for drivers traveling north through the state. But the population of the city can be deceptive when considering the city’s position as the largest city in Independence County. In fact, only around 10,248 noted Batesville, Arkansas as their home on the 2010 Census. Auto shippers still serve the local area, however, as the city is one of the most desirable areas in the country. In fact, Norman Crampton included Batesville in his 1992 list of the 100 Best Small Towns in America. Three of the districts within the city are included on the National Register of Historic Districts while a number of buildings in the city are also included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Much like Jacksonville, Batesville is easily accessible from Little Rock using Highway 167, although there are other major highways that serve the surrounding area. Arkansas state highways 69, 106, and 233 are all major roads that serve Batesville. Auto shippers are frequently called to Batesville for job transfers, especially as the city serves as the regional distribution and manufacturing center for the Ozark Mountains and most of northern Arkansas.
